There have been quite a few Playstation Network titles that have come out, some good, some bad, but none GREAT…until now.
If you’re a fan of the tower/turret defense type games (Desktop Tower Defense, Onslaught, etc) then you will definitely love this one. You may even find yourself on your PS3 until you realize it’s just a mere hour or two before work and you probably should’ve gotten some sleep.
The controls couldn’t be more simple. Move your character over to a tree, hit the X button to build a tower. Standing in front of a tower will cause your character to dance to the gods allowing the tower to be upgraded, you can also upgrade it after collecting gems by hitting the X button. You can unlock new types of towers with the collected gems as well by running your character over to the home base and hitting… you guessed it, the X button.
Creeps start filing through the maze set up for the level you’re on, and of course the object of the game is to not let those creeps ever reach your home.
This is a challenging game at times. The speed of the creeps can sometimes just be too much for your towers, and you can easily let a good 10 enemies by killing off half your village or more.
The only real struggle I have is the time it takes to upgrade the towers. In some instances it takes an exceedingly long time to upgrade a tower or two, and is almost better to use the gems to upgrade even though saving them up for things like the ice tower, the laser tower, etc make things easier in the long run.
The one “major disappointment” and I’m not even sure you can call it that, is the lack of an online “create & share a maze” feature.
If you’ve got a few extra bucks hanging out in your Playstation wallet, and you’re a fan of this type of game, I highly recommend this title, between this and Burnout, my PS3 is getting quite the workout this month.
Addiction Level: 10 - These types of games keep you from realizing what time it is and you just can’t stop playing until you’ve beaten it
Graphics: 7 - I’ll admit the 2d graphics look pretty good on my TV, I’d bet they look even better on a 1080P for which they were designed.
Sound: 6 - Nothing too groundbreaking here.
Gameplay: 10 - Easy pick-up-and-play gameplay, even your grandfather can play this game.
Replayability: 6 - An online “create your own maze and share it with other people” segment would’ve made this game perfect
OVERALL: 7.8

Nice. I found this via a google search looking up reviews for this game. I ended up picking it up yesterday and played co-op with a friend. I’d recommend it. I’ll probably talk about it on my own site (which seems…quite similar to yours actually).
Not sure how well it stacks up against other single player games; I’ve never been a big Tower Defense fan. As a simple co-op experience, though, just about anyone can be Player 2.
Tesla Coils, ftw.
pixel monsters made me fail my finals.
